Anglesite

Anglesite is a transparent, shining crystal known for its streaks of yellow - a crystal of lead. It is favored in jewelry as a symbol of age and refinement, and it is said that the yellow that sets into it represents the yellowing of parchment containing the notes taken during life. Many traditions throughout the world associate the crystal of anglesite with a special record called an "esoterica", a book of unimportant, unusual things, in which the special thoughts and knowledge of life may be stored. A scrapbook of ideas, to eventually be forged into some incredible masterwork.

And here is a story about that:

It is known that the great mountain at the heart of the world (which a bird, one day a year, visits to sharpen his beak upon) will one day be worn away. And it is said that the mountain sage, who lives in his iron monastery, who knows all the secrets to immortality, who maintains excellent discipline of breath, body and mind, may yet outlast this mountain.

We say this, even though he has passed away. It is sometimes difficult to stop saying such things!

When the mountain sage first took ill, his students came calling upon him - some sought to wring as much knowledge as they could from his old bones before the life fell out from him, others questioned how the famous knower-of-things could possibly allow himself to fall sick!

"Do you not have some great trick," asked the starry-eyed student ", which will give you eternal life?"

And the sage thought. And he bade all to leave from his room. And for no one to visit him for many days.

When finally others were permitted to enter, he unfurled a great scroll for them, a machine of iron and brass which he said would contain the secret of eternal life. He had it built over his bed, distributed among his students, such that each only saw a small piece of the thing, and none saw the whole. <span style+ "line-height: 1.5;">And the sage watched quietly as all his students worked for him, piecing it together - the long winding wheels, the elaborate filters and decanters of strange imported liquids, the carefully calibrated, needle-thin torches which burnt with gentle plumes of blue flame. He offered his students tea, at times, and discussed with them, at length, of his travels, of the things he had learned, of where each part had come from.</span>

He said, to the starry-eyed student, who had become his favorite - "When my eyes fall shut, and I do not awaken, pull this switch. Then that switch! Then that lever. For, you see, the secret of life is contained within this machine." She watched over him day and night, in his final hours, learning things that she never spoke of, so they cannot be put into this story.

But this is spoken of:

When the time came, and the mountain sage fell tranquil, the starry-eyed student pulled that switch - then that switch - then that lever. And the machine came to life, whirring, boiling, wheels winding, gears clicking, harnesses adjusting, meters reading, rails running, bellows pumping, until eventually a thin iron arm carrying a shining black marble ball descended over the mouth of the late mountain sage.

The arm clicked into place. The sphere of black marble clicked and twisted open.

Inside was a tiny card of paper:

On it read "EARLY BEDTIMES + CLEAN LIVING + A GLASS OF RED WINE A WEEK"

Contingencies are a unique sort of reaction granted to the party after it's used. The contingency can only be used once, but it can be activated in response to any action target by any ally (with no additional cost - it was paid up front). Only single instance of the same contingency may exist at any given time.

The character carries around an Esoterica with them - a small book that keeps track of statuses and enhancements used. Anytime the character successfully inflicts of bestows a status, record it in the Esoterica - unless the status or effect in question is already in the Esoterica, in which case empty it entirely. Esoterica has no effect in and of itself, but many abilities granted by the Anglesite gem interact with the statuses listed inside of the Esoterica. Any ability which removes an entry from your Esoterica does not fill the Esoterica with any entries.
